Boasting an extremely apt name, Bolt is one of those cheetahs born into captivity. Despite preventing captive births as stringently as possible at the N/a’an ku sê Foundation, a wild male cheetah breached the perimeter of Bolt’s mother’s camp and the rest, as they say, is history. If raised by his semi-habituated mother, Bolt’s life would have been far more restricted. Mum would certainly have passed on her semi-habituated habits to her son, this preventing a fully enriched life. Instead, Bolt, like Amber and Athena, was hand raised. He now shares a large and natural camp with fellow cheetahs, Bullet and Flash. The three enjoy runs, and occasional hunts, in a 100-hectare camp – their lives as natural as possible.
Bolt is the most tender of the three, his purrs permeating the African air and delighting all who meet him. Bolt makes for the ideal ambassador cat, his powerful presence educational and awe-inspiring. One can’t but be encouraged to conserve the cheetahs of Namibia.
