Neuras Wine & Wildlife Estate

Neuras, our 14,500 hectare oasis in the desert, boasting natural fresh water fountains and lush palm trees, produces wine from one of the driest vineyards in the world, our Shiraz and Namib Red Blend proving to tempt the palette. Neuras Website

In the local Koikoi language, Neuras means the “place of abandoned water”. Neuras Estate owes its early existence as a farm to the presence of several crystal clear cold-water springs, and dates back to 1894.

The Neuras Estate extends southwards from the top of the majestic Naukluft Mountains and is typical of the pro-Namib geological and natural environment. Set amongst the stunning scenery of ancient canyons and caves, fascinating geological formations and natural fountains, Neuras is truly a unique research site and is home to one of N/a’an ku sê’s carnivore research programmes – in addition to being one of only three wineries in Namibia.

Neuras welcomes volunteers as well as day visitors and overnight guests, and offers activities such as wine tasting, hiking and wildlife tracking.

Accommodation

Our economy accommodation options at Neuras Estate give our visitors a comfortable and ecologically sound way to enjoy the desert. Visit us to taste our wines, or stop by on your way to and from famous nearby landmarks including Sossusvlei, roughly 80km away.

For all guest types we offer economy accommodation in stone built en-suite chalets, shaded by large acacia and ebony trees, with linen and towels provided. There is a swimming pool for cool dips after a hot day in the desert and sundowners can be enjoyed in the stone-built lappa. Pleasant short walks along the dry river bed or to the springs can be undertaken at one’s leisure.

Guests may choose to have all meals fully catered with our dinner, bed and breakfast option, with home cooked Namibian meals, combining the simple joys of local cuisine with elegance and refinement. Alternatively, guests may decide to cater for themselves using our guest braai set which is located in the shade of trees.

Activities

Our activities at Neuras are ideal for wildlife enthusiasts, geologists, hikers, wine connoisseurs, or those looking to get away from it all and absorb the tranquil seclusion and peacefulness of nature here.

As a volunteer a stay at Neuras Estate will mean your activities at Neuras will include active participation in our conservation efforts to restore the land to its original beauty, track wild carnivores and research free-roaming wildlife, and at the right time of the year you can even help out in our vineyard (and enjoy a glass or two of course!).

As a day visitor and overnight guest, activities at Neuras offer the opportunity to experience wine tasting and vineyard tours, as well as wildlife tours, among others.

We offer a Full Wine Tour & Tasting which takes you through the vineyard, cellar and fountains and it includes the tasting with a cheese platter. This costs N$315 per person, N$235 for groups of 10 or more.
