Meet Taz – a prickly poppet who took the sanctuary by storm late November 2015.
A call from a local farmer saw Marlice van Vuuren rush to the location, ready to rescue a number of adult and young porcupines that had been kept in a concrete dam structure for many months. Upon arrival back at the N/a’an ku sê sanctuary, one of the female porcupines gave birth and subsequently abandoned the tiny quilled creature. With the utmost dedication and gentle care, Taz blossomed into a healthy, rambunctious and utterly adorable porcupine – with a penchant for feet. Our prickly poppet nuzzles toes at every opportunity and stamps his own little feet when things aren’t running exactly to his porcupine liking.
The other rescued porcupines were released onto the N/a’an ku sê reserve, eventually being able to embrace a life of freedom!
